Dear GOP: You have betrayed America & Jesus

The racist fear mongering that (primarily) Republican politicians have been spewing forth since the Paris attacks is too dangerous to ignore. Too dangerous for the millions who are trapped in war torn countries. Too dangerous for those fighting ISIS since it plays right into their marketing that the West hates Muslims. Too dangerous for the public to accept. Too dangerous for good people to do nothing.

When put to the test in difficult times, these politicians have displayed the worst of human nature. They have spat on the ideals of America and flagrantly violated core Biblical teaching. Yet during political campaigns they are the first to talk about their Christian and American values. This is the very definition of hypocrisy. Blatant hypocrisy.

As an immigrant whose family gave up everything to move and find a better life, I feel an obligation to speak up for those who cannot. Publicly call out these politicians as traitors to American values and pharisees to Christianity. Help every citizen understand their obligation as an American and every Christian understand their religious duty to denounce the actions of these politicians.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

The Bible (Matthew 25:41–46)

‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Those two passages are so simple that my preschool son can understand them.

If politicians want to keep calling for the closing of borders, demand that refugees be sent back, turn their back on the victims of the botched Iraq war which they supported, then make sure that they also demand that the Statue of the Liberty be destroyed and that the Bible be torn up because they don’t believe in either of those.

If you’re an American, then you should stand up for the ideals and founding principles of your country.

If you’re a Christian, then you should stand up for the very clear teachings of the Bible and the example Jesus set.

If you’re a decent human being, you should stand up and express outrage that cowardly politicians are demanding more of this instead of finding a solution.
